About the session
The session demonstrates how to best support children with SEND while using any phonics programme.
Are there any pupils in your class or is your own child struggling to keep up with phonics?
Are you a class teacher, teaching assistant or parent who would value more input to improve your subject knowledge in phonics?
Would you like to better understand why children may struggle in phonics lessons and know how to better support them while keeping within your chosen phonics programme?
The session will:
- Explain some background to phonics and explore the skills young people need to complete different phonics related tasks
- Explain the terminology of phonics to upskill your subject knowledge
- Unpick the skills required behind each phonics activity in class and at home
- Provide you with a checklist to identify the gaps in a young person's phonic skills
- Demonstrate practical strategies that work
As a result of this session, you will have greater confidence and understanding in using any phonics programme successfully with children with SEND and gain practical strategies to better manage the hurdles they may encounter. You will be able to make a difference to their reading experience, giving them the gift of reading.
