About this session
This is a course to help education practitioners and parents understand more about how memory works and how to apply strategies so children use memory more effectively. A practical and fun session that includes information on:
- what memory is
- the different types of memory
- effective learning practices that benefit all pupils at all ages and stages
This session will cover short term, long term and working memory, with strategies to maximise learning, retention and retrieval.
Useful for:
- all pupils but especially those who may experience difficulties with memory

Session Leader: Sarah Singleton & Nicola Durrant
This session is jointly led by Nicola Durrant and Sarah Singleton.
Nicola is an Autism Specialist Teacher and Consultant as well as being a Mum to an amazing Autistic daughter. She worked as a SENCO for eight years and a specialist advisor for 13 years while also training as dyslexia assessor and gaining a Master’s degree in Autism.
As an independent specialist teacher Nicola has a proven track record of first-class support and advice for parents and teachers and is a Director of SEND Station.
Sarah is a Level 7 (Dyslexia) Specialist Teacher with nearly 30 years of teaching experience. She was an advisory teacher in mainstream schools for 12 years and is now an independent consultant and Director of SEND Station Ltd.
